Welcome to the Year 1 page. I am Miss Horne the class teacher and working alongside me in Year 1 is Mrs Shoesmith and with support from Miss Jones.  We like to work closely with parents and the children to ensure that we can build a strong home-school relationship. Please do not hesitate to come and talk to us about any concerns or questions you may have. In Year 1, we hope to build the children's confidence and independency through investigations, discussions and encouraging the children to ask questions.

Autumn 1 

 

Welcome to the Autumn Term and welcome to a new academic school.  We will be letting you know what we are learning, and sharing this with you and your children over the coming months.  We have an exciting and busy term ahead of us, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to us.

 

English

We will exploring a variety of stories to inspire us to create invitations, lists and captions. We will use these texts to support our own creative writing in English and across the wider curriculum. Phonics is taught daily. 

 

Maths

In our Maths lessons we will be exploring place value, addition and subtraction.  We will use a range of manipulatives to support our learning in Maths including; Numicon, Base 10, counters, cubes, dice and number lines.

 

R.E

RE is taught using the SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education) planning and schemes.

 

PSHE:

Our PSHE is taught in discrete lessons, but underpins everything we teach and learn in Year 1.

 

Geography (Wider Curriculum):

In Geography we will be exploring weather and how the seasons effect us. 

 

Science:

In Science this term we will examine and explore a range of materials, discussing their properties. 

 

Art:

Our Art topic is ‘Natural sculptures.’ We will learn how to use natural matrerials to create images, scupltures and paintings. 

 

Computing:

In Computing lessons this half term, we will be focusing on computer skills e.g. use of a curser. 

 

Music

The children take part in music lessons on Tuesdays which are taught by the School Music Service. 

 

General Class Information:

 

A list of weekly Home Learning activities are sent home each half term and need to be returned by Thursday each week. 

PE is on Thursday afternoon. Please come into school PE ready every Thursday.

Phonic reading books are changed weekly. 

Please have reading books and reading records in school each day as Miss Horne and other teaching and support staff read with groups on different days.
