Reception

Welcome to the Reception page. I am Miss Wall the class teacher and working alongside me in the early years is Mrs Colin, Mrs Shoesmith and Miss Haynes with support from Miss Jones.  We always look forward to creating lots of exciting learning experiences for the children throughout the year, both indoors and outdoors. We like to work closely with parents and the children to ensure a great start to the children's school life. Please do not hesitate to come and talk to us about any concerns or questions you may have.

Autumn Term

 

Welcome to the Autumn Term and welcome to our school.  We are very much looking forward to working with your children and getting to know all our new families.  We will be letting you know what we are learning, and sharing this with you and your children over the coming months.  We have an exciting and busy term ahead of us, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to us.

 

Literacy:

  • Exploring a variety of stories - the children will be encouraged to join in with the repeated refrains, discuss the stories characters and setting and sequence stories
  • Phonics introduction - set one sounds will be introduced to the children and sent home in a phonemes book - linked to Read Write Inc
  • Blending sounds to read words e.g. m-a-t =mat, p-i-n =pin
  • Recognising print in books has meaning and handling books correctly
  • Mark making and representing sounds in words - using 'Fred Talk'

Mathematics:

  • Sorting and matching
  • Recite number names
  • Exploring 1, 2, 3
  • Grouping and comparing
  • Introduce part, part whole and tens frames
  • Exploring 2D shapes
  • Exploring patterns
  • Use the language 'more', 'less' and 'fewer'
  • Introduce size, mass and capacity
  • Daily routines

Understanding of the World:

  • Seasons and changes
  • Ourselves - families and cultures - what makes us special?
  • Festivals and celebrations

 Expressive Arts and Design:

  • Self portraits
  • Singing songs - familiar and new
  • Role play linked to familiar stories
  • Exploring and experimenting with different media - glue, paint, collage, malleable materials etc.
  • Small world play
  • Using construction toys

 

Ways you can help your child:

  • The children will continue to bring a reading book and reading record home once a week. Please read with your child at home and record how you feel they have read.
  • Reception have their P.E lessons on a Wednesday. Please ensure your child is PE ready on this day (white t-shirt, black shorts/jogging bottoms, black pumps, school jumper/cardigan).
  • Use the links below if you are looking for extra activities to do with your child at home.
